Writing Feedback+

Writing Feedback+

What is it?

Upload a file (doc, docx, odt, txt or rtf) anytime to get formative 'help not answers' feedback from Studiosity's AI to improve critical thinking, use of sources, and grammar.

What does it NOT do?

  • No curricula-based feedback
  • No editing or proofreading
  • No research-based help
  • No comments on the accuracy of your material

Connecting to the service:

Once you have loged in click on the Upload Now button to submit your document

Customizing the feedback

After clicking the Upload button, you'll be taken to a page that looks like the one shown below. The Writing Feedback+ service doesn’t support prompting, so to receive the most accurate and helpful feedback, you’ll need to provide a few key details about your assignment. This helps the system tailor its response to your specific needs.

Selecting Options

After uploading your document, you’ll be asked to choose one option for each field. These selections help the Writing Feedback+ system understand your assignment and provide more targeted feedback.

Document Progress
Choose the option that best describes the current stage of your work:

  • It’s my first draft – You’re just getting started
  • Nearly there – You’ve made good progress
  • Almost ready to hand in – You’re close to finalizing

Doucment Type

Select the type of document you’re submitting (see information below). This helps the system tailor its feedback to the format and purpose of your writing.

A business letter is typically a formal communication from one company to another, or between these entities and their customers, clients, and other external parties.
Business reports include all types of business reports, including explorative, expository and analytical.
A case study is an account of an activity, event or problem that contains a real or hypothetical situation and includes the complexities you would encounter in a real life situation.
Studiosity will give you feedback on your CV, Resume or Cover Letter that aims to help you to create a document that presents the relevant information in a neatly structured, clear and concise format to ensure that your skills, qualifications and experience are portrayed in a professional manner.
An essay is a piece of writing on a particular topic that has a specific focus, either expository, persuasive, analytical or argumentative.
Short answer responses are documents with individual paragraphs that respond to questions or cover different points. They are usually not connected to one another because the topic or focus of each paragraph can be different.
Reflective writing, including reflective essays, learning journals, etc.
A scientific report describes the process, progress and/or results of technical or scientific research. It usually also includes a conclusion.
A short story is a brief invented prose narrative usually dealing with a few characters and aiming at unity of effect and often concentrating on the creation of mood rather than plot.
A speech is written for presentation to an audience and focuses on structure, flow and clarity of message, target audience, and time restrictions.
A text analysis involves the analysis of the content rather than the structure of a text and is typically used with historical documents and narratives.

Referencing Feedback

Some of the options such as essay will also allow you to choose a referencing sytle for feedback, which should be APA 7th edition.

Reviewing the Feedback

Once you submit your document it will take a few minutes for the feedback to be generated.

Feedback will be given on the following:

  • Critical Thinking
    • Your critical thinking feedback will look at how you have developed and expressed your argument and we will provide suggestions on how you can further demonstrate a deeper understanding of your subject matter. Please note that not all tasks will require the same level of critical thinking so if you’re unsure, talk to your lecturer.
  • Structure
    • Your structure feedback refers to how you have organised your text and paragraphs to make your key message easy to read and understand for your reader.
  • Language
    • Your choice of language feedback covers how well you have worded your writing for your audience. You will receive feedback on whether your language choice is easy to understand and appropriate for your reader.
  • Spelling and Grammar
    • Your spelling and grammar feedback will focus on whether your words are grammatically accurate and spelt correctly, which will have a large impact on how professional your writing appears.
  • Use of Sources (only on select submissions)
    • This feedback will cover whether you have included citations and references where necessary and how well you have integrated source material into your argument.

Feedback will NOT be given on the following:

  • No curricula-based feedback
  • No extensive editing or proofreading
  • No research-based help
  • No comments on the accuracy of your material
  • No checks for plagiarism

Connect Live

If any of the feedback is unclear you can connect to a live chat with a human to get a better understanding of your feedback, clarify the comments made, or ask for more help. You can select up to three highlights to begin the sssion.

To start a session

  • Select the feedback you have questions about and click the connect live icon

  • From the new window that shows up select a subject and add any notes or questions. Then click on the Connect Live button

Study Assist

Study Assist

What is it?

Study Assist is a new AI-powered assistant, here to help you get started on your assignments, and learn study skills.

It has been designed to help you learn, and you will be guided to get to the answers on your own. You can ask it a question from your Studiosity account anytime, 24/7.

What does it NOT do?

  • No curricula-based feedback
  • No editing or proofreading
  • No comments on the accuracy of your material
  • Does not generate content

Connecting to the service:

Once you have loged in click on the Ask Now button to connect

Prompting Tips

  • Provide responses that are more than one word (the more detailed, the better).

  • Focus on one topic at a time. If you want to change the topic, it's best to start a new chat.

  • Be specific. Study Assist is asking for details, so that it can provide you with the most relevant information.

If you’re starting:

Instead of: “Tell me about macroeconomics.”

Try: “Can you suggest how I could get started on my macroeconomics essay. My question is: ‘Analyze the impact of policy on inflation and unemployment in a contemporary economy. Discuss the tools used by banks to influence these economic variables, and evaluate the effectiveness of these tools in achieving macroeconomic stability ’.

When you’re chatting:

If Study Assist asks: “Can you tell me what you tried so far?”

Instead of: “Nothing”

Try: “I haven’t started yet, but I know this is an essay and I need to think of some key points.”

Connect Live

Connect Live

Connect Live  allows you to connect with a subject expert for live, one-to-one support 24/7! In order to use this feature, you submit your question and they will match you with a specialist.

Connect Live can be used for core skill English questions, including punctuation, spelling and grammar, and sentence structure, and questions about essay and report writing. This is a great tool to use for follow up questions about Writing Feedback you may have received.

You can also use Connect Live for Math questions, and Study Coach questions, which helps with skills like work planning, revision timetables, study hints, and note taking.

To keep wait times down, please know that Studiosity's "Fair Use" policy limits these interactions to 20 minutes

If you get the help you need with your question, you can ask another question before the 20 minute mark. If 20 minutes have passed and you'd like to ask a secondary question, you will be asked to reconnect to another specialist, so that the next student waiting in line can get the help they need. Please be aware that this counts as a second interaction.

Studiosity Interactions

About your interactions

Students have an allocation of 6 Connect Live interactions through during a four month period (January-April, May-August, September-December).

These allocations are adjusted on a rolling basis, which means you can monitor how many of your interactions you have used by checking the "counter" at the bottom on the right-hand side of the Studiosity page.

You can verify both how many interactions you have left, as well as the date at which the next period of usage starts, so you can plan how you will use your interactions over the course of the usage period.

What is an interaction?

Any session with Connect Live is one interaction, even if it doesn't last the full 20 minutes allotted.

Other Help

Studiosity is a great resource, but it isn't always the only (or right!) resource!

If you have questions about research, challenging APA citations, or using YU's databases, please contact a librarian.

For questions about your syllabus or questions specific to course content, please contact your instructor.

Yorkville Resources

After submitting your writting or during a conversation in Study Assist you will often be directed to addtional Yorkville spefific resources.

In the Writting Feedback+ these resources will be in the left and right pannels.
