Online and Print Magazines

Magazines and websites with specific Interior Design themes are provided here for review. Online resources may not be peer-reviewed, but can be an excellent source of news in your field of study.

  • Abitare: Founded in 1961 by Piera Peroni and run by her for thirty years from an exclusively female perspective, the new Abitare maintains and strengthens the formula and the characteristics of the magazine – which at the time was nothing if not revolutionary – with its rigorous, refined approach and attention to civil life and social problems, without betraying the spirit and independence of thinking that have always been key features of the magazine. 

  • Architectural Digest: Online resource for architecture, design and style. Published by Condé Nast.  

  • Award Magazine: For 28 years Award has been serving the needs of Canadian architects, interior designers, specification writers, builders, and developers, general contractors, consulting engineers, landscape architects and city/municipal planners. " Your definitive information source for Canadian architecture, design and construction " 

  • Azure: … is an award-winning magazine with a focus on contemporary architecture and design. Since its launch in 1985, it has earned a global reputation for excellence. Its international perspective and multidisciplinary coverage – which puts architecture, interiors, products, landscapes and urbanism together in a real-world scenario – make it distinct from any other publication available on newsstands. 

  • Canadian Architect: Canadian Architect is a magazine for architects and related professionals practicing in Canada. Canada’s only monthly design publication, Canadian Architect has been in continuous publication since 1955”. It is "the journal of record of two national professional associations: the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada  (RAIC) and the AIA Canada Society and is the  official magazine  of each association"   

  • Canadian House & Home: "... a premiere design, decorating and lifestyle brand that takes you inside the most unique and beautiful homes in North America and abroad. House & Home magazine is published by Lynda Reeves.  It brings you the best in design trends, products and stores to inspire you, and decorating advice to help you create the home you’ve always dreamed of.  

  • Canadian Interiors: Canadian Interiors is Canada’s leading magazine targeted at interior design professionals. Since its launch in 1964, the magazine is a must read for Canadian interior designers. 

  • Casabella: architectural magazine: This magazine has been published since 1928. It focuses on Italian architecture and design products.  Articles from select issues of past years are available on the website.  

  • Dezeen:  Claims to be the world's most popular and influential architecture, interiors and design magazine, with over three million monthly readers and six million social media followers. Brings a carefully edited selection of the best architecture, design and interiors projects from around the world. 

  • Domus: Founded in 1928 by Gio Ponti, Domus magazine remains one of the most authoritative voices in the fields of architecture and design – an internationally recognised platform of excellence for innovative thinking and influential criticism. 

  • Dwell Magazine: Modern architecture and design for real people. 

  • Florida Design: “FLORIDA DESIGN is dedicated to those who appreciate fine interior design, furnishings, architecture and a luxurious lifestyle. Because of our distribution, advertisers have been rewarded with sales from buyers living in or moving to Florida from all for sources by name or category, and then connect directly to their web sites for more information..” 

  • The Future of Retail  2017.  Arup’s Future of Retail report reveals important trends shaping retail’s future and looks at some of the likely impacts of these on retail environments. It looks at how consumer expectations and behaviours are changing and assesses the technologies that are impacting the retail experience, both in-store and on-line. 

  • Gestalten: “Founded in Berlin in 1995, Gestalten is best known for our more than 500 books that document and anticipate vital movements in design, illustration, architecture, and typography as well as urban and contemporary art. We generate the topics for the vast majority of the books that we publish ourselves and compile, edit, and design each publication to be both inspirational and user-oriented.” 

  • Healthcare Design: Healthcare Design serves an audience of architects, interior designers, hospital administrators, facility managers, engineers, and key members of the construction community as the premier source of insight, information, and inspiration for planning, designing, and constructing new or renovated healthcare facilities.   • Hospitality Design: “Published 11 times a year, Hospitality Design magazine is the premier trade outlet and voice for the hospitality design industry. It serves owners, operators, brands, purchasing agents, interior designers, and architects involved in the design of hotels, resorts, restaurants, nightlife, spas, and all other hospitality-oriented projects. Hospitality Design continues its four-decade mission to connect and enrich the industry through innovative projects, inspiring products, the latest trends, development spotlights, and interesting interviews with the industry’s leading professionals.” 

  • InformeDesign: "InformeDesign was originally created to bring building design research and practice together. The designers and architects of buildings face a multitude of complex challenges that are resource, social, environmental, behavioral, and architectural design in nature. InformeDesign brought research from a vast array of reputable research sources to the building design community to addresses those challenges. They ranged from the most rigorous, peer reviewed journal research findings transformed into evidence-based design criteria, to postings of the most recent doctoral dissertations and intra-company industry reports. All are provided as a means by which to enable building design practitioners to engage in evidence-based design (EBD)."

  • The Japan Architect:  "The Japan Architect  was first published in June 1956 and was the only English language periodical that introduced Japanese architecture to an overseas audience. Since 1991 it has been published as a quarterly journal in both Japanese and English.... showcases contemporary Japanese architecture with in-depth commentary on the theoretical history and context of the projects... "

SABMag also provides Continuing Education articles for LEED professionals."
