Social Media & Web 2.0 Tools

In addition to journals and magazines on the web, there many Web 2.0 tools and applications that will help you become a more efficient researcher. From Facebook to Academia.edu, there are many social media tools online to help connect you to information you need.

Applications (phone, tablets, etc.)

  • Photo Measures (Apple): Photo Measures provides an easy way to save measures on your own photos on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
  • Magpie (Apple)Think of Magpie as the beautiful lovechild of Apple Photos and Notes apps. Use your camera to take photos and combine them with notes, maps, prices and links. It’s a reminder/list app, focussed entirely around the photos you take of the things you love and want to remember.

Blogs

  • Art Lessons Online – Art Instruction for Beginners: Provides art tutorials from trained artists. Topics include drawing, painting, crafts, and mixed media. Also provides information on color theory and composition. Includes artist interviews.
  • OneDrawingaDay.com: “One Drawing A Day is a joint Studio 1482 effort to put more drawings out in the world. Another way to break the ice, start a conversation, show some of our thinking and mostly just to have a place to post a few drawings. We have a lot of drawings. We thought they should see the light of day more often.”

Productivity Software Online

  • Trello: Trello is a free project management software tool. It allows you to create ‘To Do’ lists, collaborate with groups, set deadlines, and attach documents…and many more functions. It is an excellent way to organize your term of study.

Social Media

  • Academia.edu: This site not only allows you to create a Facebook-like profile, but the focus is on academics and sharing knowledge. You will be able to connect with other professionals in your area, review their posted research.
